Featured Friday: Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild
Topic: Featured Friday

This week's site was chosen based on its attractive design, ease of navigation, and the fact that there are two identical French and English sites! Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild is based out of Quebec (hence the alternative French site). If you are in the dark about what "Hooking" is, it is a fun way to create rugs, usually with great designs, using a hook tool and strands of yarn.

Check out the Featured section or the Gallery to see some fantastic examples. Some of the members of the Guild create their rugs with such detail, it's shocking to think it's just a rug!

Definitely check out the website to see the different rugs that they have created plus to see the excellent design and layout. Visit the site at beaconsfieldrughooking.com or beaconsfieldrughooking.com/fr/ for the French version!

Don't forget to vote for your favorite site from the month of April for the site of the month! Vote now!

Featured Website: Horror Fan Review
Topic: Featured Friday

Do you love movies that terrify and gross you out?  Do you battle with friends over the greatest horror movies of all time?  Horror Fan Review site is the place for you.  Site owner, John has crafted a terrific site that features all things that make horror movies great - the music, gore, and of course the scares!  There are interviews with stars of great B-movies plus a whole section called “The Splatter Zone” that highlights some movies for their intense gore.  Though that style of horror isn’t my cup of tea, the page was incredibly informative and makes me wonder how movie making magic made some of those scenes happen!

My favorite sections of the site are the “10 Scariest Movies of All Time” and “Top 50 Horror Films”.  John’s diversity in his selections is what makes those lists so great and I completely agree with his Number One pick.  I was also thrilled to see some love given to what I feel is a great (if little seen) horror flick “Darkness Falls”.

Plus, I loved reliving my initial reaction to the listed films such as “When A Stranger Calls”, I was so terrified that I decreed I would never babysit children - ever!  There are some great classic films listed which warms my heart even if they freaked me out as a kid.  Still won’t swim in a lake because of the Creature of the Black Lagoon!  Enjoy the movie reviews and be sure to take the poll on the Best Classic Horror movie.

Check it out today!

Featured Friday: Kobe Chinese Martial Arts Association
Topic: Featured Friday

Have you ever had a personal passion that springs into a career and that career impacts others and improves the health and mindset of others? When you visit the Kobe Chinese Martial Arts Association’s website you will learn that is exactly what happened for John Aogishi.  He began his kung fu training back in 1980 and has since learned under the tutelage of some amazing Grandmasters.  In 2004, John moved to Japan and opened the Kobe Chinese Martial Arts Association.

At his school students of all ages learn kung fu, which is an effective self-defense system plus a fun and great way to keep in shape!  Even if you can’t fly to Japan to take a class, enjoy their website as it provides such details on the history of the kung fu system Sifu John Aogishi teaches plus even some details on the Tai-Chi classes one could take.

The Video section of the site highlights various carnivals and events that the school has performed at over the past few years.  The page also has terrific photos ranging from in-class training to kung fun stances to even old photos of John’s early days.  I recommend everyone check out the old photos to see the impressive skills this teacher has and how amazing it must be to learn under his guidance.  There is also a brief FAQ section where I learned that kung fu doesn’t go by belts (that’s judo) and that a Sifu means teacher.  All of this makes this site pretty impressive.  Check it out today!

Featured Friday: Sideshows Carnival
Topic: Featured Friday

Carnivals, amusement parks, state fairs - all incredibly fun and envoke specific memories of childhood and smells of cotton candy and fried food for me. To have a website totally dedicated to the jovial atmosphere of a carnival allows you to peruse all of your favorite parts of a carnival without having to wait for it to come to town!

One of my favorite tabs on Sideshows Carnival is the Carnival Oddities tab. I always loved the show Ripley's Believe It or Not and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about people with special talents or anything abnormal. The Carnival Oddities tab gives me just that. You can watch videos of oddities and read up about Ripley and Barnum.

Of course, there are many other fun features to the site like just the general Carnival Fun tab or the "Ha Ha Center" - if you like clowns, go ahead and check out that tab too but me and my fear of clowns won't be in there with you!

All in all, Sideshows Carnival is a great feel-good website and browsing it is an awesome way to spend your time. You should also check out their Facebook page, they frequently share fun videos and posts. Check out their site at Sideshows-Carnival.com
