Mobilize Your Website!
Topic: Builder Updates

You can now make your website compatible with your mobile device all with the simple click of one button.

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to turn on your mobile layout and how to customize what shows up on your site when you view it on a mobile device.

Step 1:

Make sure that you have Mobile Layout enabled.

To do this, go to your Site tab and click "Turn On Mobile Layout" under  Site Settings. To make sure it works, you must click SAVE! Note: You will notice that if you have a free account, this option is not currently available.

Step 2:

Create your site! Once you're done filling your website with all the content you want and with all the add-ons you need, click "Preview" and then select "Mobile Preview" to see how your website will look on a mobile screen.

Step 3:

Once you have seen the preview of your mobile site, you can go back to your editor and make any changes you need. If there are images or modules that you do not want to appear on your mobile website you can click on the cog of that module and uncheck the box "Display in Mobile Version."

Step 4:

Click publish to make sure others will view this version of your site when they visit on a mobile device.

Custom Style Tips:

If you built custom CSS into your style, you must make sure that your CSS for the mobile layout matches the CSS for your website. For example, if you changed the background image of your website, if you don't change the background image in your mobile layout CSS, your mobile version will show up as the original style.

To check and edit your website's CSS, view the CSS editor in Source View and scroll all the way to the bottom. If you have simple changes to make, easily edit the mobile CSS under "MOBILE LAYOUT" to what you need it to be to match your normal website. If you are not seeing this CSS at the bottom of your code, you can add in the code below and customize it to your liking. See the code below:

______________________________________________________________________________ */
@media screen and (max-device-width:480px), screen and (max-width:600px){
/* adds mobile only background */
#body.mobileLayout{}

/* style for menu button at top right of page */
#body.mobileLayout #mNavLink{}

/* styling for navigation menu to be placed at bottom of page */
#body.mobileLayout .mobileNav ul{}

#body.mobileLayout .mobileNav ul li a{}

#body.mobileLayout .mobileNav ul li a:hover,
#body.mobileLayout .mobileNav ul li a.selected{}

/* mobile layout/content styling */
    #body.mobileLayout #outerContainer{}
    #body.mobileLayout #header{}
    #body.mobileLayout #main{}
    #body.mobileLayout #content{}
    #body.mobileLayout #sidebar{}
    #body.mobileLayout #footer{}
}

Fill in all of these sections with the elements that you need to match your custom site and you'll be all set!

Featured Friday: Brown County Breakdown
Topic: Featured Friday

Although it is just the start of January, I am already excited for the fall. The changing colors of the leaves, the brisk temperatures (not the chilling cold!), and it's the perfect time for fun outdoor activities... like riding bikes! The Brown County Breakdown "isn't a race, it's just a great ride in the woods with a few hundred of your closest friends." The bike ride is held at Brown County State Park near Nashville, Indiana and has a full weekend of events planned.

Brown County Breakdown

You can see all the highlights of last year's event on the website as well as see the schedule for the upcoming year (although you have to wait until October for the Brown County Breakdown!). Check out Brown County Breakdown at browncountymountainbiking.com/breakdown/.

If you want to see your site highlighted here next week, submit it at spotlight-site.tripod.com

Week 3:

This week's bundle comes in the theme of "Business Basics." Check them out!

Business Sepia

Business Sepia is great for a simple business site. Use it for your consulting firm, law practice, or for whatever business you are in to have a clean and simple site.

Coffee Beans

Use Coffee Beans to have a visually appealing site for your coffee shop. A simple background with coffee bean accents gives your shop's website the special touches it needs without being overly designed.

Love Birds

Perfect for a wedding planner site or possibly your photography site, Love Birds is a beautiful template.

Modern Medicine

Modern Medicine is great for a private practice website or even an informational page for the school nurse.

Plain Jade

Plain Jade can be altered to fit whatever business you need. Its crisp white background with a dark accent gives your business a clean slate to create a unique site upon.

Squiggles

Squiggles is a fun and calming style - great for a spa or beauty shop or also, again, a wedding planner.

Tool Shop

If you're a handyman, in the construction business, or an owner of a hardware store, Tool Shop is the perfect style for you.

Week 2:

This week's bundle comes in the theme of "Inspired by Paper." Check them out!

Koi

This style will give your site an oriental feel with a background similar to Washi (a type of paper made in Japan).

Paper Bag

Paper Bag was inspired by everyday shopping bags or lunch bags with fun accent colors added in - perfect for an eco-friendly site.

Scratched V2

Scratched V2 may look familiar to you and there's a reason for that - Scratched is a current Tripod style. Scratched V2 pulls the same crumpled paper background and similar heading as the original Scratched but changes some imagery and has different navigation designs.

Stitch Pad

Stitch Pad is a simple style derived from stitching and note pads - perfect for a journal website or even your website for selling homemade clothing!

Week 1:

This week's bundle comes in the theme of "Winter Blues." Check them out!

Blue Powder

Blue Powder is a cute and fun style - perfect for teens and personal websites.

Blue Journal

Blue Journal is a Classic Tripod Blog favorite reimagined for your Zeeblio website.

Curtain Up

Curtain Up may look simple at first glance, but we have implemented a new type of Menu function where on hover of your Menu large blocks appear with your pages in a new style! Try it out in your builder to see how it functions.

My World

My World is a fun-loving template with bright blue skies and an illustrated town at the bottom of the template - check it out in your builder to see the full view!

Paris

Paris je t'adore! Use this style for your travel site, photo site, or just because you like it!

Update: FTP Outage and Denial of Service Attack
Topic: Tech News
Hi everyone -

My name is Chris, and I'm the general manager for Tripod and Angelfire. As some of you are aware, FTP is currently unavailable. I wanted to explain what's happened, why, and what we're doing next.

Tripod was hit by denial of service attack early yesterday morning. Thanks to security measures we have in place, no member accounts were violated, and no Tripod sites were harmed. However, the force of the attack did cause us to take certain parts of Tripod offline, including FTP, which was the main focus of the attack.

We've been working through the night, and will continue working today, to restore full service to everyone. Thank you for your patience as we restore service, and for your patronage.

As soon as we have an ETA on restoring full service, we will let you know.

Sincerely,
Chris Cummings
General Manager

Featured Friday: KimberlyJessup.com
Topic: Featured Friday

This website was created by Kimberly Jessup's loving friends and family who wanted to have a destination for people to come together to remember the amazing life she led and for people who want to get more information about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and the scholarship that was created in honor of her memory at North Carolina State University.

As the note on the website says... "this is a great way to honor a person that has given so much to so many. Kim had so much more left to give to us and to this world. I think it now becomes our responsibility to carry on for her."

We strongly recommend visiting the website to learn more about Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and Kim's endowment. Any donation to the fund helps!

Visit the site at KimberlyJessup.com.
