Featured Friday: North Star Tavern
Topic: Featured Friday

Businesses make up most of the published Tripod sites so we always love highlighting the great work done by our members on their own business sites. North Star Tavern is a great example of how to create an enticing and attractive website for a restaurant.

The folks at North Star Tavern used one of our most popular styles, Coffee Smoked, and made it look like it was made specifically for them. Tying in the colors of the background into their header graphic, the site looks very professional. Creating a header banner in a program like Photoshop can instantly boost the overall image of your website. Putting photos of the tavern as well as contact information was a great way for North Star Tavern to put their most imporant info front and center without putting it all in body of their website which could either get lost or look too word-heavy.

Check out the rest of the North Start Tavern's website at NorthStarTavern.com!

Featured Friday: Cruz Roja Chilena
Topic: Featured Friday

Today's featured website comes from Chile. The Red Cross is a global humanitarian organization, and the Filial Concepción is just one of the chapters of the Red Cross.

Fun tip: if you don't speak Spanish, you can open this page in Google Chrome and it will ask you if you want it to translate the page for you!

The website is beautifully designed with a great use of multiple add-ons.They used a basic theme and made it look crisp and clean (and the red accents match the Red Cross perfectly!).

Take a look at cruzrojaconcepcion.tripod.com - even if you don't speak the language, you will be able to see the passion and dedication that went into building the site!

Featured Friday: Boston Dance Company
Topic: Featured Friday

Tripod is located right outside of Boston so whenever we come across a local member site, we get really excited! This week we are featuring the Boston Dance Company's website.

The Boston Dance company has been around since 1992 and has been teaching promising dancers of Boston and New England classical ballet. Every year the Boston Dance Company puts on a rendition of the Nutcracker, a favorite holiday ballet. The company is currently holding auditions for the productions, so if you're in the area and are a skilled dancer, or know one, audition for the ballet yourself!

BDC has a great website - it is easy to navigate and provides the visitor with plenty of information. The style that the company chose to use matches well with their own logo, making the website look complete. You can check out BDC's website at bostondancecompany.net.

Today's featured site comes to us from Zina. Zina's site is called HelpMeHelpU.org and is a non-profit organization that organizes charity programs within the community. Here's what Zina had to say when we asked about the site:

(Tripod) Who is your main audience and how do you reach them?

(Zina) Our target audience is the entire community. We seek to engage supporters and friends of our work and we provide services and programs to the low income and homeless community.

Help Me Help You is doing amazing work. Check out their website to get motivated to do some charity work in your area or join them if you are nearby!

Ever seen a beautiful piece of glass artwork and wondered how the artist created it?  Look no further than Fiamma Glass’ Flameworking Classes!  This Massachusetts based gallery offers a wide range of classes where students walk out of their first class with several objects they created themselves.  Each class is taught by a skilled glass professional and the calendar feature of the site makes finding a class that’s right for you a snap!

The terrific site design allows for easy navigation where learning more about flameworking enables potential students to know how fun and amazing taking a class would be.  I can attest that after reviewing this site and knowing that these classes are close to where I live makes me want to sign up now for an intro class.

Featured Site: The Village of Kirkersville
Topic: Featured Friday

The Village of Kirkersville in Ohio is a small community that features a robust website.  Mainly focused on Public Safety for the community, the site has many excellent resources for its citizens to utilize.  In a few clicks, you can find more information about the new curfew or how to receive community information instantly. Questions regarding tickets and fines can easily be answered under the Mayor’s Court tab while the Police Reports keeps everyone informed on recent happenings within the County.

A special message from the Chief of Police re-emphasizes the Village’s mission statement and the dedication of its public servants.  The great design and site flow makes finding exactly what you are looking for a snap!  Though only roughly 550 residents make up Kirkersville, you can’t judge this little hamlet by its size.  Just a quick visit to the site will prove how important service and dedication is to this community.

The Ashburton Young Cricketers is a small cricket club with an impressive website.  The Australian-based Club’s warm and welcoming amtosphere is quite apparent as you navigate their site.  The group photo that greets you on the homepage perfectly captures the friendly and inviting nature of it’s members.

You can follow the team’s record under the Scorebook page or learn a bit more on the Club’s history and overall stats.  You can easily reach out to them if you are interested in either learning more about cricket or participating with the Club on or off the field.  Personally, I wish I was in Austraila right now because I need to know more about one of their sponsors: The Cheesecake Shop.  Their tag line is “made with love” and now I’m curious if they could ship something to Massachusetts!!

Check them out today!

The talented artist Michael Lewandowski has created an impressive website that highlights his amazing ability for precise realism within his artwork.  A middle school art teacher helping to open the minds of his students to the wonders of creativity and their own potential.  Michael’s skills certainly do not end there and his website is a testament to the detail and passion he puts into each artistic endeavour.  His charcoal drawings are very impressive and the range of his subjects helps illustrates his ability to bring life to his drawings.  The details found within his oil paintings are extraordinary but to see the method of how he achieves his final composition after the many layers involved, knocks it out of the park.

Michael’s work has been featured in many galleries and his illustrations have been published in several books.  He also provides cartooning classes and private lessons in his local area of upstate New York. For me, the Pony “X” Press piece stood out as an amazing piece that I would love to see in person. The great thing about the website is how Michael takes you through his process and even his studio so it’s easy to see how dedicated and enthusiastic he is about his art.
